tangential speed is how fast a point is moving, when rotated around another point 🌪

s = ωr

s - tangential speed (m/s) ω - angular speed (rad/s) r - radius (m)

you might see how speed is linearly proportional to the radius in how the points form a perfect line after detaching~

It’s estimated only 1% of people disable Javascript on purpose. But there are many reasons why JS might not load. Servers responding slowly. Content Delivery Networks going down. Dodgy signal on a mobile phone. Progressive Enhancement is the insurance policy every website needs!

I’ve used @airbnb and @airbnbhelp as a guest quite a few times and was generally happy.

I do some light hosting on the side, and got to see the other side of it. Today I discovered that Airbnb actively SCAMS HOSTS by pocketing money off refunds.

A Netflix user will browse the app for 90 seconds and leave if they find nothing.

Thumbnail artwork is actually NFLX’s most effective lever to influence a viewer’s choice. A user will look at one for only 1.8 seconds, so NFLX spends huge to optimize them.

Here’s a breakdown🧵

Facebook employees can’t enter the headquarters because their badges don’t work, and those already inside can’t enter various rooms because access is linked through the IoT (Internet of Things) and so goes through the same DNS routes that no longer exist:

While we’re at it: if you don’t have a Web site of your own and you’ve been blogging and creating content on third-party platforms, now might be a good time to reconsider creating one and owning your own little corner of the internet. 🔑

Getting customers is great. Getting customers to stick around a long time is even better.

I gotta imagine storing data for your customers is one of the stickiest churn-bustin’ things you can do. And putting a permissions layer on top of it, even moreso.

Just going to throw it out there that good security design requires building systems that resist compromise even by entities who design and run the system.

If your “security” relies on pinky-swears and governments not abusing their power then…you don’t have security.

Why are users hated so much? We are much the reason for their so called “incompetence”.
